I started coding in 1984 when it wasn’t cool to be a geek – especially for a girl. I still code and am still not cool.
In 1987 I went online with a 300 baud modem and a local BBS. It was just about connecting. Still is.
Loves Design, UX, Community, Content, doing good + putting it all together. Also ponies.
I was one of the first personal bloggers, creating a writing site in 1995 called, alex the girl.
You’ve seen my work everywhere. You just don’t know it. I don’t work for fame. I work because I love to build things that inspire others.
I immigrated to America in 1999 and have lived all over it since – Franklin TN, Bowling Green KY, Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, Austin TX, Philadelphia PA, Santa Monica CA and San Diego CA. Currently based in San Francisco CA whilst working with Airbnb.
I’m not Australian although I did live in New Zealand for a year. I’ve never been to South Africa.
Girl at Play comes from the quote “What did you do as a child that made the hours pass like minutes? Herein lies the key to your earthly pursuits.” Read the story & site history.
I truly believe in creating great online tools/sites/brands to help people live great offline lives
I work with companies that need to do something new but aren’t sure where to start. So they usually start with me.
I work with brands and people that want to do good. I can’t market an oil spill or create community around fried chicken.
To do great things, to make a real difference, is what drives me.
I love what I do, and I do a lot.
I don’t really have a mustache.
